We arrange 24-hour vehicle recovery, roadside assistance and vehicle transport. Our services include car and van recovery, jump starts, tyre help, accident recovery, auction collection and non-runner transport.

Question 2

Do I need breakdown-cover membership?

Accepted Answer

No. Auto Squad is a pay-per-job service, so you can call when you need help without taking out an annual membership.

Question 3

Are you open 24 hours?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our phone and WhatsApp lines are available 24 hours a day, including nights, weekends and bank holidays. Availability for a particular job is confirmed when you contact us.

Question 4

Which areas do you cover?

Accepted Answer

Auto Squad Recovery arranges recovery across England & Wales. Jobs are offered to the nearest suitable available recovery driver. We have strong coverage in Yorkshire, Midlands, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, London, Bristol, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Kent, Essex etc

Question 5

What should I do while I wait for recovery?

Accepted Answer

Move to the safest available place, switch on your hazard lights and stay away from moving traffic. On a motorway, leave by the passenger side when it is safe and wait behind the barrier. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 999 first.

Question 6

Can you recover a car that will not start?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can arrange recovery for non-starting and non-running vehicles. Tell us whether the wheels roll, the steering works and the keys are available so we can send suitable equipment.

Question 7

Can you recover an accident-damaged vehicle?

Accepted Answer

Yes, subject to safe access and the vehicle's condition. Tell us about visible damage, locked wheels, deployed airbags or fluids on the road so the driver can arrive properly prepared.

Question 8

Where can you take my vehicle?

Accepted Answer

You can usually choose a home address, garage, repair centre, dealership or another suitable destination. Share the collection and delivery postcodes when requesting your quote.

Question 9

How much does vehicle recovery cost?

Accepted Answer

The price depends on the vehicle, collection point, destination, distance, access, condition and time of the job. We confirm the price before dispatch so you can decide whether to proceed.

Question 10

Is the quote fixed before dispatch?

Accepted Answer

We confirm what is included before dispatch based on the information you provide. The price may need to change if the vehicle, access or journey is materially different from what was described, but this will be explained before extra work is agreed.

Question 11

Do you charge a call-out fee?

Accepted Answer

Your quote is based on the complete job details rather than a one-size-fits-all fee. Ask what is included when you call or message and we will explain the quoted total before dispatch.

Question 12

How can I get a quote?

Accepted Answer

Send your collection location, destination, vehicle make and model, registration, problem and any access details. You can request a quote online, by phone or through WhatsApp.

Question 13

How quickly can a recovery driver reach me?

Accepted Answer

Arrival time varies with your location, traffic, weather, vehicle requirements and driver availability. We find the nearest suitable available driver and give you a realistic estimated arrival time before dispatch.

Question 14

Do you have drivers based in every town?

Accepted Answer

Our office is in Walsall. For work elsewhere, we arrange assistance through suitable recovery drivers in our national partner network rather than claiming a depot in every town.

Question 15

What information helps you dispatch the right vehicle?

Accepted Answer

Please provide your exact location, vehicle make and model, registration, the fault or damage, your destination and anything affecting access. Photos and a live location sent through WhatsApp can also help.

Question 16

Can you jump-start my car at home or work?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can arrange battery jump-start help at homes, workplaces, car parks and suitable roadside locations. Tell us where the vehicle is parked and whether access is restricted.

Question 17

What happens if a jump start does not work?

Accepted Answer

A non-start may be caused by the battery, starter motor, alternator or another fault. If the vehicle cannot be started safely, we can discuss recovery to a garage or another destination.

Question 18

Can you help with an electric or hybrid vehicle?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but the correct approach depends on the vehicle and whether the issue involves the 12-volt system or the traction battery. Share the exact make, model and warning shown so suitable assistance can be arranged.

Question 19

Do you carry and fit replacement tyres?

Accepted Answer

We do not promise to carry a replacement tyre for every vehicle. We can fit a usable spare or space-saver, or arrange recovery to a tyre fitter when an on-site wheel change is not possible.

Question 20

What if my car has no spare wheel?

Accepted Answer

Many modern cars have no spare. If a safe temporary repair is not available or appropriate, we can arrange transport to an open tyre fitter, garage or another suitable destination.

Question 21

Can you help with a locking wheel nut?

Accepted Answer

If you have the correct locking wheel-nut key, the driver may be able to help change the wheel. Without it, specialist extraction may be needed and recovery to a suitable garage may be the safest option.

Question 22

Can you recover vans and commercial vehicles?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We arrange van and light-commercial recovery, but need the vehicle's make, model, approximate weight, load and condition to select suitable recovery equipment.

Question 23

Can you recover me from a motorway?

Accepted Answer

Yes, where safe and permitted. Give us the motorway name, direction of travel, nearest junction or marker-post details and whether you are in a live lane. Call 999 immediately if you are in danger or stranded in a live lane.

Question 24

Can you recover caravans, motorhomes or 4x4s?

Accepted Answer

We can arrange specialist recovery subject to dimensions, weight, condition and access. Give us accurate vehicle details before dispatch so the correct recovery vehicle can be selected.

Question 25

Can you transport a vehicle that has not broken down?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We arrange planned transport for purchases, relocations, garage visits, dealer transfers, classic cars and non-runners as well as emergency recovery.

Question 26

Can you collect a vehicle from an auction?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We collect from vehicle auction sites for private buyers and motor-trade customers. Send the collection note, buyer reference, release requirements, vehicle condition and collection deadline when requesting a quote.

Question 27

Can you move a non-runner or a vehicle with locked wheels?

Accepted Answer

Often, yes, but specialist loading equipment may be required. Tell us whether the vehicle rolls, steers and brakes, and disclose flat tyres, locked wheels, low clearance or missing keys before dispatch.

Question 28

Can you collect a scrap or end-of-life vehicle?

Accepted Answer

We can arrange collection of unwanted, damaged and end-of-life vehicles. The quote depends on the vehicle, location, condition, access and current collection options.

Question 29

Will I receive a Certificate of Destruction?

Accepted Answer

When a vehicle is accepted and destroyed by an authorised treatment facility, that facility is responsible for notifying the DVLA and issuing the Certificate of Destruction where applicable. Auto Squad does not issue the certificate itself.

Question 30

What documents are needed for scrap-car collection?

Accepted Answer

Requirements vary, but you should normally have proof of identity, proof of address and evidence that you are entitled to dispose of the vehicle. The collecting party will confirm exactly what is required before collection.

Question 31

What details do I need to make a booking?

Accepted Answer

We need your contact details, collection address, destination, vehicle make and model, registration, condition and preferred timing. Include anything unusual about access or loading.

Question 32

Do I need to be present at collection?

Accepted Answer

Not always, but this must be agreed in advance. The driver needs authorised access to the vehicle, its keys when available, and clear handover instructions at both ends.

Question 33

Is the vehicle covered during transport?

Accepted Answer

The appointed recovery operator should have suitable cover for the work being carried out. If you need confirmation for a high-value, classic or specialist vehicle, ask before booking so the relevant details can be checked.

Question 34

Can I leave personal belongings in the vehicle?

Accepted Answer

Remove valuables and loose personal items before collection. Personal belongings are not normally treated as part of the vehicle transport and may not be covered if lost or damaged.
